Sunday at Osberton International
1st October 2017
Two more young horses were crowned today, the KBIS Six Year Old and KBIS Seven Year Old 2017 Champions.
KBIS Seven Year Old Championship
The top two after yesterday’s showjumping rounds switched places today during the cross country phase. Reigning Junior European Champion Bubby Upton jumped one of just five clear rounds inside the optimum time on Cola III to move above the overnight leaders Aoife Clark and Calling Card.
William Fox-Pitt held on to third place, despite initially being given 50 penalties for jumping the wrong side of a flag. These penalties were subsequently removed, and William stayed ahead of birthday boy Giovanni Ugolotti on Duke of Champion, by just 0.2 of a penalty.
KBIS Six Year Old Championship
Piggy French’s young horses excelled today, AKD Corline winning the title and stablemate Carnival March placing fourth. But for a rail down by Carnival March yesterday, it would have been a 1-2 for Piggy.
Nicola Wilson and JL Dublin retained second place with a cross country round inside the optimum time, while Kitty King moved up to third on Drewmain Firefly, also with a clean sheet today.
A single rail down on the final day dropped overnight leaders Emilie Chandler and Gortfadda Diamond to third place when both James Avery and Matthew Heath posted clear rounds on Zazu and One Of A Kind II respectively. James’s clear round gave him the win, with Matthew as runner up.
A foot perfect clear showjumping round by Billy Shania handed Gemma Tattersall the one-star title. Clear rounds were thin on the ground, and both runner up Kitty King (Snow Wind SN) and Christopher Whittle (Kilwaughter Blade) rolled a pole apiece, while the morning’s leader Andrew Heffernan had a round to forget, plummeting down to 19th place with 12 penalties.
